Oct 29, 2020.
I took the drastic step of deleting my social media accounts on Twitter and Facebook.
I am tired of the noise. Sick and tired of the way my attention and energy were being manipulated.
It is not the fault of Twitter or Facebook. The fault is my own.
I let myself get sucked into the vortex of politics, culture and other commentary.
I let my self distracted with every surge of dopamine that comes from a new notification, or the subtle set of pixels that notify that you have new things to read in the feed, often about some injustice happening in a part of the world I give zero fucks about.
There is nothing I can do, except voice my vociferous opposition. Except that no one is listening to it. Or care. It is merely a blip in the noise that drowns out everything relevant.
I am a builder. A maker. A tinkerer. I got into computer because I loved tinkering. Physically and with Software. I got my computer when I was 13 and an internet connection when I was 14. It opened up a world of possibilties, learning and experiences unimaginable to the previous generation. It made me what I am.
And now I must let go of it, to find peace and start building anew.
I realized that I was just consuming all along, ruining my productivity at work and my mental, inner peace. I don’t think we as humans are designed to handle this overload of information and constant occurings.
It is time I take control of my attention. Poll instead of Push. Let news come to me when and how I choose to.
I will be now restorting to mostly one way communication, via this newsletter and a new website.
Currently, I host some articles on gowind.github.io. It started of as a personal blog of a few tech articles. I am planning to revamp it and open source my notes and other writings that I haven’t published.
With lockdown 2.0 being forced upon the population by the new Nazis, aka Big EU Government, I am going to use this opportunity of isolation to emerge more focused, a builder and a creator.
Stay tuned for more updates.
Regards,
Govind.
